The Feast of the Epiphany
Matthew 2:1-12
Sr. Kathy Carpenter, Walsenburg, CO
For the Feast of the Epiphany, we focus on the journey of the Magi to Bethlehem, the gifts they brought and their meaning. This reflection will focus on the Gospel sentence that the Magi "return by a different route".
The Magi traveled many months, and along this journey may have discussed why they were going to see this newborn king. After visiting their lives changed. They could never be the same people as before. The Spirit changed something within. Their experience of Jesus as the Son of God helped them realized God is for everyone. Their strengthened faith required a movement, a change in direction.

We too might reflect on what change in direction is God asking of us and leading us toward. Our faith has led us in so many directions throughout our lifetimes. We might ask ourselves, what might this different direction in faith look like for us?

This time might be one way of letting go of things, spending days recovering from an unexpected illness; accepting an invitation to be attentive to the poor; recognizing an invitation to a deeper spiritual encounter. We have seen the Holy One. Our journey direction has changed.

During this time, Give us hearts that see, hands that serve, and feet that follow.
